Heirloom Wedding Apparel
When a young woman first announces her engagement, or perhaps, proclaims the long awaited for yes to a proposal, most often the dress is the first thing she starts to think about and begin planning for. Does she get a new one? Designer? Rental? A million things start running through her head immediately.
Many times, the idea of a traditional or heirloom wedding dress is considered. A lot of families like the idea of passing down a dress from one woman to the next, or maybe just mom wants you to wear what she wore. Perhaps you would like to include your grandmother in the wedding, but she has since moved on. Using an heirloom dress is a lovely way to incorporate a cherished element to your wedding.
Even if you want an heirloom in your wedding apparel, it may not meet your personal style and tastes. If your family is not going to mind too much muss or fuss, there are ways you can incorporate heirloom apparel and still have your own style on your wedding day. Many seamstresses today are using preserved fabric from former dresses to re-create new bridal looks and styles. Ensure the heirloom apparel is properly restored through a reliable dry cleaner as some older gowns will not have had the preservation possibilities that are available today. Again, if your family does not mind this re-creation this is a lovely way to have an older dress, and wear it too.
